Abstract:The author explains the purposes of competitor analysis and examines the techniques available, including best practice bench marking, value chain analysis, competitive profiling and industry structure analysis. Against this background, he says, strategies can be formulated with some reasonable expectation of their leading to enhanced competitive position, reflecting an identifiable competitive advantage. The sources of information that provide a basis for competitive analysis include in-house sources, competitors, trade sources, government and other published sources, other third parties.
