| Abstract: | This textual analysis of the newspaper coverage of the murder of a battered woman by her husband shows how myths and stereotypes combine to blame the victim for her own death. It also demonstrates the interconnection of gender, race, and class in the representation of violence against women. The analysis also suggests that previous theorizing about crime reporting ignored the victimization of women and therefore may be applicable only when the victim is male. |
