Abstract:This paper develops a small, compact econometric model of tourism demand for Turkey on a sound theoretical basis; tourism demand is a function of income and relative price. The double-logarithmic functional form is used, the coefficients being income and price elasticities, respectively. The results indicate a positive relationship between tourist arrivals and national income of tourist generating countries, and a negative relationship between tourist arrivals and relative prices, and are therefore satisfactory. Similarly, income and price elasticities of tourism demand are mostly high in the majority of studies by different researchers for different countries.
