Abstract: | The underlying premise of this paper is that much of economics is, or should be, human ecology (Rees and Wackernagel, 1994). The economy is that set of activities and relationships by which human beings acquire, process, and distribute the material necessities and wants of life. Ecologists study non-human species and the ecosystems that sustain them by measuring and analyzing the physical flow of energy, material, and information essential to the continuous restructuring and self-organization of those systems. |
