Abstract:Sector sustainability strategies can be utilized as frameworks to help business sectors identify and manage economic, environmental and social risks in an integrated way, and as instrumental in unlocking opportunities to improve competitiveness and reputation. Examining the context, purpose, process and content of three strategies from the UK construction products industry, this paper seeks to supplement the existing research on topic. The results show that strategy context and content were unique in each case suggesting that the development of a generic sector sustainability strategy is unfeasible. However, to improve the likelihood of developing a successful sector sustainability strategy, six lessons in regard to strategy purpose and process were identified and clarified.
