Abstract: | This study compares equity funds (hereafter as: eq-fs.) managed according to sustainability goals with conventionally managed funds as to their environmental (here as: env-al.) impacts. Overlap in the portfolios of sustainable eq-fs. and conventional eq-fs. can be very large. Applying input–output life-cycle assessment (IO-LCA) with a simulation of company-specific env-al. performance, this study comparatively assesses the env-al. impact of portfolios of 26 investment funds (here as: inv-fs.): 13 sustainable inv-fs. and 13 conventional funds managed to the benchmark MSCI World. It is shown that the analyzed sustainable inv-fs. performed better with respect to env-al. impact assessment but worse in economic risk-adjusted performance (RAP) during the period from 2000 to 2004. However, in 2004 the RAP of the selected sustainable inv-fs. show better performance etc. |
