Abstract:The Alpine destination is already a popular holiday district in the eyes of the tourists. However the changes in traveling motivations and climate change can pose threats to Alpine tourism. This paper reports on field research which explored a behavioral and motivational profile of a new segment of tourist that should take into account when considering the future and competitiveness of the destination. The research is based on about 1000 questionnaires to visitors in a one of the main valleys in the Dolomites, a section of the Alps in north-eastern Italy. The new 4L (landscape, leisure, learning and limit) tourism pays particular attention to the territory itself and its social, cultural, historical, ecological aspects.
