Abstract:This paper aims to analyze the strategies or patterns of adaptation of firms for responding to environmental requirements or expectations. Particularly, analyzed is the influence of the different pressure agents/stakeholders on the degree of proactivity of these patterns. Four types of environmental response pattern (here as: env-r-ptn.) are proposed and validated. Focused on a sample of 240 industrial firms, the analysis provides empirical evidence for identifying, understanding, and evaluating the impact of stakeholders on the choice of env-r-ptn.
