Abstract: | Religion and tourism have a close relationship where the former motivates travel and is a source of assorted visitor attractions. One expression of the ties btw. the two is pilgrimage. This paper identifies key pilgrimage tourism issues related to demand and provision discussed within the context of the contemporary hajj. The hajj by Muslims to the cities deemed holy in Saudi Arabia is a distinctive illustration involving the mass movement of pilgrims every year. This study aims to improve understanding of the uniqueness and significance of the hajj phenomenon, elucidating the challenges of managing large-scale religious tourism events in the changing world of the 21st century. |
