Abstract:This paper examines how pressures from primary stakeholders affect the firms consideration of social aspects in the selection of emerging economy suppliers. In addition, the study considers how socially sustainable supplier selection relates to the capabilities of the firm's suppliers and its market reputation. The study is based on data from 244 U.S. and German companies. The findings indicate that middle-level supply managers as internal stakeholders play a significant driving role for companies' socially sustainable supplier selection and that positive links exist between that selection and the investigated outcomes.
