| Abstract: | Through analyzing the difficulties of fiscal adjustments in Hungary, this article examines how lack of trust affects the quality of democracies in terms of effective governance. It is claimed that while strong continuities (here as: conts.) from the socialist period gave Hungary a head start at the beginning of the transition process, the same conts. have slowed down development more recently due to their effects on the general level of trust. |
