Abstract:In recent two years, many well-known transnational corporations in the world have purchased China's state- owned enterprises one after another. Either they have purchased the whole assets of enterprises or they have controlled shares of stock absolutely. By the end of 1993, among the 24 projects invested by American transnational corporations in Shanghai, 18 were controlled by American businessmen in shares of stock which accounts for 75% of the invested projects. According to this paper's analysis, the reasons for transnational corporations purchasing China's state-owned enterprises are low purchasing cost, higher investment returns and stronger production capacity possessed by state-owned enterprises.
