Abstract: | The new economy is characterized by escalating inter-firm competitiveness and rising interdependence among workers who themselves have complex and varied relations with their employers. The Human Resource (HR) function is re-inventing itself in response. Traditionally HR has focused on a set of activities the authors refer to as the agency function, such as acquiring and developing workers with appropriate skills, managing compensation, and complying with employment law. |
