| Abstract: | This paper explores how residents perceive the effects of tourism. The authors consider the determinants of residents' perceptions to be economic, cultural and environmental effects and that the possibility to gain benefits from tourism influence on residents' support for tourism development. Presenting a conceptual model and testing it in a small community in Southern Spain, the authors find evidence supporting their hypothesis. The results suggest that the amount of personal benefits obtained from tourism affect on residents' attitudes toward tourism impacts. |
