Abstract:Significant opportunities for residential energy efficiency improvements exist among older age groups. In general, however, most conservation programmes have not been successful in reaching the subgroup of older customers. Evidence on utility, federal and state programmes for the elderly is reviewed. Several diverse approaches are effective in stimulating conservation programme participation by the elderly. Door-to-door canvassing with free installation of the measures, recruitment and verification through existing community groups, peer services and counselling by other senior citizens have all attracted the elderly.
