Abstract:Based on general experience, information gleaned from the literature and evidence from a case study work, it is argued that objectives and strategy are never properly articulated and documented in most organisations, and this is particulary true of the purchasing function. Work carried out on a study of corporate level marketing and strategy is outlined. A research work carried out on international sourcing from the less developed countries of the world is involved indicating that purchasing decision is more complex when sourcing on an international front than purchasing from the domestic market. The possible change to purchasing and other strategies through the introduction of an international sourcing policy are also outlined.
