Abstract:This paper uses a Dutch food retailer, Koninklijke (Royal) Ahold, as a case study to show how a too fast expansion can lead to problems in acquisitions management. The article reviews the history of the firm and the recent development including the announcement of remarkable accounting fraud in 2003. The company was reduced to resort emergency financing to avoid bankruptcy.
