Abstract: | In this study, the distinction btw. two forms of tension appearing within the research on organizational (as: org-al.) climates for creativity (as: creat-y.) and the conflict management literature are provided: i. the Debate dimension (here as: D.) is described as reflecting a more productive idea tension and ii. the Conflict dimension (here as: C.) refers to a more non-productive personal tension. Summarized are series of studies, across multiple levels of analysis. A new study is reported to highlight the finding that relatively higher levels of D., and lower levels of C. are more contributive to org-al. creat-y. and innovation. A practical model for the constructive use of differences is provided, along with a few strategies for reducing the negative tension associated with the C. and increasing the positive viewpoints related with the D. |
