Abstract: | Competitive pressures and technological improvements are leading many firms to consider centralized information systems to manage inventories and schedule productions. A simple model is proposed to measure the potential benefits of improved information in terms of reduced inventories and backorders. The model represents two products competing for a single production facility. A queuing system model is formulated and analyzed with a novel priority discipline and means to serve a customer from the class having the largest number of customers in the system. |
