Abstract: | American international relations (IR) is heading for national professionalization, but since it happens on the basis of a liberal ontology through rational choice methods, it will not be easily exportable and entails a de-Americanization elsewhere. The best hope for a more global discipline lies in the American turn to rational choice which is not going to be copied in Europe. European IR shows signs of increasing professionalization, but not Americanization. IR has started to break the very local power structures and is heading toward a larger academic market. |
