Abstract:Chic in the '80s, MBA glamour has quickly faded in the harsh climate of the '90s. The writer reflects on company disenchantment and business school confusion. It is dangerous to go to any MBA school thinking you will be able to change careers. There is confusion in the minds of employers and candidates because no system of general standards exists. Employers want people who can manage. Institutions merely provide the inexperienced with a two-year escape from the practical experience they need most.
