Abstract: | An island program is one where students travel in a group from their home university to a foreign country to study. Local students are not mixed into the classes, and classes are taught in the students' own language. In 1991, the University of British Columbia, in conjunction with the University of Toronto, launched a 6-week summer program in International Business Studies. The program was held in France. It is viewed as one part of a portfolio of study abroad experience which students can select from. It has improved accessibility of students to international study by its lower costs and by its non-interruption of the regular course. |
