Abstract:Twenty-five years ago, strategy could quite cheerfully be taught in a business school on the basis of the then Harvard approach to business policy, and alternative attempts at scientific approaches. Now, strategy in a business school is more confusing. Can strategy be reduced to industry and competitor analysis? Has Japanese industrial and commercial success produced new insights which should be universally embraced? Are there eight, or ten, or twelve distinctive types of strategy? If so, does each fit a particular context?
