| Abstract: | One of the main reasons why mergers fail is that the fears, uncertainties and culture clashes among the people they affect are ignored. Linda Holbeche previews research that pinpoints a "marriage guidance" role for HR, which starts well before the knot is tied. Mergers and acquisitions create the most dramatic changes that most people will experience at work. But despite being widely seen as a way of surviving in the global marketplace, they often fail to produce the results anticipated when the "bride" and "groom" organisations first plan their match made in heaven. |
