Abstract:The paper examines the self-perceived job insecurity. The fear of job loss damages the health of employees and reduces the productivity of firms. It is assumed that job insecurity should result in increasing social costs. The survey was made by analysing data of the European Social Survey which consists of 17 European countries. The findings reveal that there are significant cross-national differences in self-perceived job insecurity in Europe.
