| Abstract: | Five years have passed since the fall of the Berlin Wall. This article deals with various aspects of the transition from planned to market economies in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. The first section discusses the developments that led to the collapse of the Soviet system. it is argued that this breakdown was inevitable and was ingerent in the nature of the system. |
