Abstract: | The Eastern European electric market is showing a high potential for growth. Establishing market presence and low- cost production capacities are important strategic objecti- ves of foreign companies with regard to that market. Co- operations and acquisitions have proved to be a favourable instrument for Siemens AG to pursue those objectives. The legal framework coupled with difficulties in appropriately assessing the partner and bureaucratic administrative regu- lations pose obstacles as regards speedy success for many cooperations/acquisitions in Eastern Europe. The experience of the Siemens AG has revealed three success factors. A gra- dual increase in the intensity of a cooperation/integration, a high-quality cooperation/acquisition process and detailed integration-management improve the prospects for success of a cooperation/acquisition in Eastern Europe. |
