Abstract:This paper examines the soft drinks market in East Europe, focusing to Bulgaria, Czech, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine. The regional economic output has reached US$897 billion in 1997. The combined GDP has grown faster than consumer income, consumer expenditure and retail sales during the last five years. Households in the Czech Republic benefit from the highest average income in the region, followed by Hungarian households. The market is expected to show a positive growth in real value and volume during the next five to ten years but a reduced rate, around 5% a year.
