Abstract:In most economies in Western Europe, the dampening effects stemming from monetary tightening mainly in the years 1988 and 1989 will relent, especially since a restrictive course was than avoided in most countries. However, no considerable impulses from economic policy are likely in the short run, with the exception of the United Kingdom. On the other hand, the recovery from the recession in the United States will also foster the business climate in Western Europe. The weakness of demand therefore will gradually be overcome. The propensity to invest is not likely to decrease any further; however, it probably will not increase this year already. All things considered, the GNP propably will grow by about 1,5 p.c.in 1992, only slightly more than last year.
