Abstract:There is no sign of the recovery of the West German exports. The stagnation of the demand for West German goods is due to the missing expansionary forces in the world economy and first of all in the USA. Exports from East Germany decreased too in spite of the fact that demand from Western Europe increased. However, export to the Eastern and Middle European countries, formerly the main trade partners of East Germany, decreased more strongly. Like the exports, the imports of West Germany decreased in the first half of 1992 too, while in the Eastern part of the country it increased slightly. As to the prospects of the German foreign trade, the likely recovery of the world economy will have its favourable impacts on the German imports and exports too.
