Abstract:After the First World War Europeans looked to North America for instruction in modern work organization and management techniques. For instance, the German management and productivity centre, the RKW, was established in 1921 specifically to disseminate modern, i.e. U.S., management techniques in Europe, Germany. U.S. management's broad dissemination to all western European countries took place in the aftermath of the scond world war. However, there was a major difference: the initiative was taken by the Americans who thoroughly thought through a dissemination strategy adapted to the individual countries and provided the necessary financial resources.
