Abstract:The figures of foreign trade between Germany and Eastern Europe have to be analysed separately with respect to East Germany and West Germany. Although trade volumes decrease permanently companies in East Germany are more successful in trade with East European countries than companies in West Germany. One reason for this difference are the soft factors, here described as symbols. Cross-cultural interactions can be influenced by aspects like speaking the language, knowledge of the culture and manners of communication.
