Abstract:Although it has become a fashionable topic, the stress of working life is undeniably taking its toll on employees and costing employers a lot of money. The author reports on attempts to tackle both the symptoms and the causes. estimates of how much stress costs the UK vary from 3.7 billion pounds to 11 billion pounds a year. The International Labour Organisation estimates that inefficiencies arising from stress cost up to 10 per cent of the country's gross national product.
