Abstract: | Insider trading (hereafter as: i-trg.) means buying and selling of securities based on privileged information. Is i-trg. the high crime that we have led to believe? The article authors interviewed more than four dozen members of three international exchanges. What their survey revealed, and what is concluded, may come as a surprise. Although some respondents (here as: resps.) claimed i-trg. to have a positive impact on the market efficiency (as: m-eff.), majority of resps. considered i-trg. to have a negative effect on m-eff. They hypothesized one of the motivators for individuals practicing i-trg. to be money, other factors being power and the excitement involved in the deal. |
