Abstract:In this article, an integrated framework where knowledge tacitness and trust act as mediating mechanisms in the relationship between partner characteristics and alliance results is suggested and tested. It is also suggested that while innovation may originate alliance learning, it can also be constructed by combining separate knowledge bases without learning from each other. It is claimed that tacitness and trust play differing roles in the pursuit of learning and innovation and this hypothesis is tested on a sample of 120 international strategic alliances.
