Abstract: | Music downloading over the internet is becoming more and more popular. The music industry claims that this is causing a decline in the record sales, which is supported by surveys and studies. This paper estimates an ecometric, time-series model of consumer spending on recordings. The main result is that music downloading affects consumer spending on recordings through the price elasticity of demand. |
