Abstract:Over the past several years, the business press has reported dozens of scandals, many involving leading companies. Greats amounts of money had been swindled out during a ten-year period, mostly uncovered for years. The "systems problem" - the tendency to divide responsibility - is examined. Furthermore under certain circumstances, a lot of employees - even entire organizations - can become involved in various forms of cheating. The problem of the lack of options for those who suspect wrongdoing is also discussed. The widespread high level of tolerance for illegal and unethical conduct in the business community is blamed. The ways of preventing fraud are highlighted. Warning sings and steps to reduce cases of fraud are described.
