Abstract:This article discusses the issue of software piracy. The concept of software piracy is divided into five categories: End-user piracy, client-server overuse, internet swapping, hard-disk loading, and commercial counterfeiting of software. It provides three major reasons to resist software piracy: legal, financial, and diminished productivity. In addition, the reasons to do unauthorized copying are assessed. The geographical differences in software piracy are also presented.
