The newly built marble palace of Turkmenistan's President Suparmurat Niyasov stands proud in the centre of Ashkhabad. But all around it are poverty , urban decay and squalor. Just behind the high walls of the $60 million extravagance - it's the President's fourth palace - Turkmen women hawk secondhand shoes, tomato paste and family heirlooms, just to make ends meet. |
