Abstract:Based on publicly available data, this article analyzes how, since the Rio Environmental Summit in 1992, the narration of the multinational oil company Shell have projected a development from an oil company identity (here as: id.) to an id. including also renewable energies. In analyzing the narrative battles over Shell's organizational identity (as: org-id.), the article contributes to the field of org-id. theory by providing a description of the micro processes through which individual management actors seek by telling different evolutionary tales to get the larger corporate actor to adapt to, or to manage, external social structures etc.
