Abstract:In practice the lifespan of even succesful oligopolies is not long, averaging four to five years before the joint efforts collapse. Against this background the experience of the oil industry has been, until recently, extraordinary. This article examines the fact how can an oliogopoly hold itself together. It will be illustrated by introducing the different areas of the OPEC.
