Abstract:The existing views of job design ignore the importance of time as a contextual feature. The aim of this paper is to revise job design theory by emphasizing objective and subjective time perspectives. According to the authors temporal aspects play an important role in individual career dynamics. WorkersÂ’ attitudes towards stimulating jobs may depend on temporal features of their career expectations and ambitions. Career dynamics can partly explain why some individuals are able to maintain their work motivation in less stimulating jobs. The results improve the understanding of employeesÂ’ attitudinal and behavioral reactions.
