| Abstract: | In the early 1980s, when computers were established as key elements in the search of business efficiency, analysts began to observe that their utility was greatly restricted by the separation between computing and communications. Specifically, there were many operations in which the result of computer computation was printed out, sent in paper form to another site and re-keyed into another computer - an obvious waste of employee time, as well as a cause of delay and error. |
