Abstract:This paper aims to describe a framework formulated to assess the capacity of a knowledge management (KM) system to ease new knowledge creation (KC). In order to test the framework, a longitudinal case study methodology is used in a single company, Pratt Whitney Rocketdyne (PWR).
It is found that new KC is best supported via mature KM systems including all four modes of KC: combination, externalization, socialization, and internalization. KM systems and environments as a whole come to maturity by progressing through stages, presented as a KM maturity model.
