Abstract:The Austrian mail order and home shopping is well established. The growth has been attributed to two main reasons: convenience and price. The sector's image has changed considerably during the 1980s form one aimed at order, rural customers to a younger, urban client base. Total mail order and home shopping sales were valued at ASch 14,600 million in 1991. Four of the top five companies are under foreign owned, the leading indigenous operator is Kastner & Ohler which has a market share of 17% Quelle /Germany/ and Universal Versand /GUS/UK/ closely dispute leadership.
