Abstract:It has long been known that many of the nation's top black political leaders have been tobacco beneficiaries. On the Philip Morris list, next to a USD 1,000 contribution to the Martin Luther King Center for Non-Violent Change, was the comment, "Support requested by Congressman Charles Rangel." The tobacco companies are buying the silence of the black leaders. And by accepting the money, and not speaking out against the awful dangers of smoking, those leaders are selling out their people. How many black bodies is a political contribution worth?
