Abstract:This paper argues that the availability of a smoke-free environment is perceived by many tourists emanating from the major English-speaking countries to be an important facet of the hospitality product. In many non-English speaking countries, there is a propensity to have few restrictions on smoking. There is potential conflict in simultaneously meeting the needs of both groups of tourists as well as hospitality staff because of the pervasive nature of tobacco smoke.
