Abstract:This research note examines several indicators that measure the performance of Japanese transnational corporations as compiled by different government agencies. The data of the Ministry of Finance on approved-reported flows and stocks of foreign direct investment substantially overestimate the stock of Japanese foreign direct investment, with the degree of over estimation being sizable before the mid 1980s and for the developing economies, states the author of the present research note.
