| Abstract: | Should home countries of foreign direct investment worry about job losses? To answer this question, foreign direct investment is divided into three types: natural resource-seeking, market-seeking and efficiency-seeking. In the first two types, unemployment resulting from export substitution and reimports is expected to be considerably less than employment created by additional exports of capital equipment, intermediate goods and new product lines to foreign affiliates, and the need for more management activities in home countries. |
