Abstract:This paper discusses a comparative longtitudal case study research to investigate why and how strong dyadic interfirm tied and two alternative network architectures impact the innovative capability of the lead firm in an alliance network. The author discusses strong ties networks and shows that the ability to integrate a large periphery of heterogenous weak ties and a core stong ties is a distinctive lead firm's relational capacity, one that provides fertile ground for leading firms in knowlege intensive alliance networks to gain competitive advantages.
